Quick and easy Tool Caddy

This handy Tool Caddy is quick and easy to make if you have a pneumatic nail gun - or use a hammer and panel pins to assemble.

03/12/2017

I made two tool caddies - one in pink and one in blue. You don't have to use them to carry tools around, they can also be used as serviette or sauce holders for when you entertain outdoors, for carrying your craft supplies around, or just as storage caddies for a variety of tasks.

1. Use wood glue to assemble the frame. Let this dry for an hour or so.

2. Use a pneumatic nailer - or hammer and panel pins - to secure the front and back to the sides.

3. Use a mitre saw - or jigsaw -  to cut 45-degree corners off the handle.

4. Drill two holes with a 20mm spade bit.

5. Cut out the hole for the handle with your jigsaw.

6. Sand all the pieces with 120-grit sandpaper until smooth.

7. Measure and mark the centre on the front and back and then push the handle section into the frame

GOOD TO KNOW: Stain the handle BEFORE inserting into the frame - see below for details.

8. Place a bead of wood glue around the edges before securing the base onto the frame with your pneumatic nailer - or hammer and panel pins.

9. For my tool caddy I wanted to stain the handle in a contrasting colour. For the blue and pink caddy I used Rust-Oleum Ultimate Wood Stain - Barn Red and Worn Navy. Follow the instructions on the can for proper application. Find the full range of Rust-Oleum products at your local Builders, or get in touch with www.Spraymate.co.za to find your nearest retail outlet.

10. To paint the main body of the caddy I used Rust-Oleum Chalked ultra matte paint in Serenity Blue and Blush Pink.
